Our approach to STEM engagement isn’t just about reaching large numbers; it’s about creating inclusive opportunities that empower everyone. One of our primary goals is to inspire more girls to explore careers in STEM and the maritime industry, breaking down traditional gender barriers and paving the way for a more diverse workforce.
Our STEM outreach initiatives are designed to highlight the incredible possibilities that a career in STEM offers. Through hands-on experiences and educational programmes, we provide students and young professionals with a deeper understanding of how STEM drives global progress and addresses real-world challenges.
Over the past financial year, we’ve made great strides in our outreach efforts:
This year, we expanded our national impact by participating in New Scientist Live in London, UK.
This high-profile event provided us with a unique platform to demonstrate the exciting opportunities in STEM, particularly within the business and maritime sectors.
Engaging with a national audience has allowed us to inspire a broader demographic and strengthen our efforts to ignite a passion for STEM among young people.
We’re passionate about making a difference in our communities. We believe that STEM is a crucial pathway to creating lasting, positive impact. We invite schools, businesses, and community organisations to partner with us in empowering the next generation of STEM leaders. Together, we can spark curiosity, drive innovation, and champion excellence in STEM for a brighter future.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science, I joined BMT. The diverse projects and global presence really appealed to me as well as the graduate programme on offer. This started with a structured set of modules focused on business and interpersonal skills before progressing to my area, which centred on reliability, obsolescence, safety, and environment. This focus later evolved into asset performance management (APM), where I’m still working today.
