Malikai TLP Marine Instrumentation System and Marine Advisory System (MIS/MAS)

The Technip MMHE JV contracted BMT in 2015 to provide the Marine Instrumentation System and Marine Advisory System (MIS/MAS) for the Shell Malikai TLP.   

The MIS/MAS provided by BMT is an integrated system using state-of-the-art sensors to make vessel, marine and environmental data available to the marine systems operators in an easy to understand format, enabling the operations team to work safely.

BMT brought valuable experience to this project, having previously provided a similar system to the Cascade Chinook field development, the first deep water FPSO in the US Gulf of Mexico. The company has also been engaged in many other similar projects involving various combinations of mooring line monitoring systems, acoustic positioning, subsea motions measurement and integrated monitoring packages.

• Wind tunnel testing of the TLP and Drilling Tender Platform (DTP) during the design phase, carried out at BMT’s wind tunnel testing facilities.

• Prior to award of the Malikai projects in 2014 BMT had already delivered and continued servicing approximately 17 monitoring systems for TLP facilities in water depths greater than 500m, the deepest being the Big Foot TLP at a depth of 1,580m.
