Bringing deep operational experience in gas and LNG shipping, Jesse joins the Rotterdam team to enhance our global marine surveying capabilities.
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Jesse Westerman as Marine Consultant, further strengthening our specialist marine surveying, investigation, and consultancy expertise in The Netherlands and across Europe.
Jesse joins the Rotterdam office, becoming part of the organisation’s international network of expert marine consultants, bringing extensive operational experience in gas shipping and a background in maritime innovations and safety.
With a Maritime Officer HBO Bachelor (BSc) and an MSc in Marine Shipping Innovations from NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences, Jesse has spent over 8 years with a leading gas shipping company, progressing from Cadet to Chief Officer and later serving as a Gas and Vessel Compatibility specialist. His experience and educational background have lent him valuable insights into risk mitigation and vessel operations, further strengthening his expertise in the field.
His master’s thesis focused on CO₂ reduction strategies for existing gas carrier fleets, balancing capital and operational expenditure to enhance efficiency. Jesse then transitioned into engineering and project management, obtaining an IPMA D license and conducting compatibility studies for docking, mooring, and vessel connections - particularly relevant for the evolving LNG market.
Jesse will reinforce the business’s growing maritime consultancy capabilities in The Netherlands and internationally, supporting P&I clubs, cargo underwriters, shipowners, and insurers. His deep operational knowledge in LNG shipping, safety assurance, and marine incident investigation will lend to strengthening our global marine surveying services.
Dennis de Bruin, Managing Director of Commercial Shipping Europe business, welcomed Jesse to the team, commenting:
“Jesse’s wealth of operational expertise in LNG shipping, coupled with his strong background in maritime innovation and risk assessment, aligns with BMT’s commitment to excellence in marine surveying and consultancy. As we continue to grow our global network of surveyors, Jesse’s appointment strengthens our ability to provide high-quality, data-driven insights to our customers, particularly in the evolving LNG sector and wider maritime markets. We are delighted to welcome him to the team.”
