Financial Times UK's Leading Management Consultants List 2025

Proud to be recognised as a leading UK consultancy.

5 February 2025

We're proud to be included in the prestigious Financial Times UK’s Leading Management Consultants & Consulting Networks List 2025. While our primary focus remains on defence, having been recognised in the Aerospace and Defence category, this acknowledgment highlights our expertise and leadership in delivering innovative and impactful business transformation consulting services to central government and national security customers.

The listing is part of the 8th annual Financial Times and Statista survey, which highlights the UK’s top management consulting firms based on recommendations from both industry peers and clients. Our recognition reflects the trust and confidence of its customers, including key organisations such as the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD), Home Office Border Force and the Metropolitan Police Service.

With a track record of supporting the defence sector, we deliver cutting-edge consultancy services across a broad spectrum of areas, including naval architecture, autonomous systems development, and operational planning. The organisation’s innovative solutions are tailored to address the unique challenges faced by central government and national security customers, from strengthening border and maritime security to enhancing operational effectiveness.

Alan Hodgson, Senior Business Development Manager – Consulting Services, Central Government and National Security at BMT, shares insights:

“Being recognised by the Financial Times in this category is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our teams. This achievement highlights our unwavering commitment to delivering transformative solutions that strengthen the security and operational readiness of our customers.
This recognition also aligns with BMT’s global strategy to innovate, collaborate, and invest in the future. As we strive to make the world a safer and better place, we are focused on leveraging our talented global network and breadth of consulting expertise to address complex challenges in the defence, commercial maritime, central government, national security and resilience sectors. This award reinforces our ambition to create interesting work for our people, and meaningful value for our customers and communities alike.”

This recognition is echoed by Commodore Phil Game, Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) Director Sense, Decide & Communicate (SDC), who highlighted the critical role we played in delivering high-impact consultancy across defence and maritime programmes:

“BMT has provided expertise in supporting Defence Equipment & Support across a range of programmes, notably in the combat systems and maritime environments.”

Recognition Beyond Defence

While recognition in the Aerospace and Defence category underscores our decades-long leadership in defence, the organisation’s design, engineering and consulting capabilities extend far beyond. We provide strategic advice and innovative solutions to customers in commercial shipping and ports, energy infrastructure and environmental resilience sectors, demonstrating our breadth and versatility as a trusted partner for solving diverse and complex, real-world problems.

This achievement follows BMT’s recognition as a finalist at the 2023 Management Consultancies Association (MCA) Awards in the Change and Transformation in the Public Sector category. This recognition celebrated our work with Defence Digital and the Ministry of Defence Strategic Command, where we ensured its digital portfolio - one of the largest in government - was optimised to transform Defensive Cyber services.

Together, these accolades affirm our consultancy value in addressing critical national challenges, from defence to public sector initiatives, and reinforce our reputation for delivering impactful solutions through innovation and expertise.

A Rigorous Evaluation Process

The Financial Times list is compiled through an independent process managed by Statista, combining recommendations from more than 4,000 partners, executives, and clients. The survey evaluates consultancies across 16 sectors and 15 consulting services, reflecting the high standards required for inclusion. BMT’s recognition in this list reaffirms its reputation as a leading consultancy in the UK.
