Shipping is one of BMT's largest market sectors, involving every one of BMT's subsidiary companies. Supported by our worldwide network of offices and an in-depth understanding of the shipping industry, we offer a comprehensive range of services covering all aspects of the shipping life cycle.
BMT's design support services include extensive experience of the specific issues associated with individual ship types. We produce complete ship designs, and provide specialist design support such as, for example, model testing, computer simulation, material sciences, fatigue analyses and cold-climate technology. We offer design support from initial concept, through detailed design to production. Our track record comprises experience of a wide range of ship designs, including many specialist types such as high-speed vessels, cable layers, multi-role support vessels, shuttle tankers and many others.
BMT Yachts combines our dedicated Survey, Design & Consultancy capabilities providing a one stop shop for this specialist sector of the market. From early concept design, naval architecture, detailed and production design through to survey and risk management, we have the skills and capability to offer a high quality bespoke service.
BMT provides support during the procurement and build phases, including preparation of build specifications, procurement management, plan approval, build overseeing and survey. We have also assisted major build yards to optimise their design and build methods.
BMT offers an extensive range of in-service / operational support to the shipping industry, such as training (e.g. vessel manoeuvring, environmental awareness), reliability assessment and optimisation of maintenance schedules, and problem solving (e.g. structural cracking, vibration). We have comprehensive trials and instrumentation capabilities, including, for example, inclining experiments, propulsion / seakeeping trials, structural integrity monitoring and materials testing.
BMT provides specialist consultancy such as transport economics, formal safety and risk assessment, expert witness and incident investigations.
BMT also offers a range of ship performance monitoring products, including hull stress monitoring, propulsive efficiency monitoring, hull roughness analysers and container stack load monitoring. Other products in support of ship operations include onboard tools for manoeuvring simulation (training and rehearsals), cargo arrangement and voyage planning. All of our products are supported by in-depth understanding of the technical and operational issues.
